The American Abstract Expressionist years
Upon returning to New York in 1956, DeMartis stepped ashore into the whirlwind of the nascent American Abstract Expressionist movement. The painting style was given free rein; a more joyous blast of color and shapes. DeMartis sought to leave behind his often macabre dark visions of his years past.
